Our role in these gardens varied. In one case the soil was compacted, sodden, lacked drainage and air infiltration and had more than 10 years of accumulated weed seed load. Over-winter sheet mulching rebooted the soil health, providing ease of cultivation and root, water and air infiltration and microbiome based "digestion" of the excess weed seed load. A large public garden had been significantly taken over with weeds in early spring, the job demanded speed and the ability to discern both native and ornamental species from weeds at early growth stages. A third garden is a lovely, lush private garden for which weeding, pruning and lawn maintenance services are provided. A fourth client yard represented a significantly overgrown front garden bed in which Pink Jasmine vine, Ehrharta grass, Oxalis pes-caprae, blackberry and other weeds had smothered and crowded out the entire bed. The client wanted a "reboot" of the bed, cleaning out the weeds, recovering the sidewalk, all while preserving some native plants that were extant, but buried in the bed.
